Tree Kangaroos: Unique Marsupials That Dwell Among the Canopy

An Overview of Tree Kangaroos

Tree kangaroos, aptly named, are extraordinary marsupials belonging to the macropod superfamily. They are uniquely adapted to an arboreal lifestyle, spending most of their lives in the treetops. Found exclusively in the lush rainforests of northeastern Australia, these captivating creatures stand out with their elongated limbs, powerful claws, and prehensile tails, all of which aid in their arboreal agility.

Distribution and Species

Currently, only two extant tree kangaroo species grace the Australian wilderness: the Lumholtz's tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus lumholtzi) and Bennett's tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus bennettianus). Despite their similarities, each species exhibits distinct physical and behavioral characteristics.
